Logo designed as part of fictional skin care product line called "MEI." The word "mei" for an English speaker, sounds like the female name May. The word "mei" to a Chinese speaker can mean many different things. Similar to the English speakers, "Mei" can be part of a female Chinese name. But it also can mean "pretty" or "beautiful," "rose," "plum," "charming" and perhaps a dozen other meanings, depending on the tone that is used for the Chinese character. For this product, this designer has used the third tone and character of "mei" which means "beautiful" in Mandarin. Both the Chinese character and English pinyin, or phonetic rendering of the sound in Mandarin, is used. By combining elements familiar to both English and Chinese native speakers, the brand identity of "MEI" products is then identifiable by both cultures.
